How to prepare endpapers

The first pages you see when you open a hardback book will be the end papers. They are attached to the inside front and
inside back covers of the book. They are also referred to as the endsheets and will usually be printed with a colour, pattern or
image.

End papers are used to add strength and hide the join between the cover and the internal pages. They can offer a wide
variety of design opportunities. Although using a plain flat colour remains the most popular choice, we look at some of the
other possibilities.

Single or double-sided printing
Shown here are two examples of end papers, on the left the design is printed on both sides, on the right it is
printed on one side only.
